March 31, 2017 The Walter & Elise Haas Fund has provided the GTU a grant to support the CIS and CJS in their joint Madrasa-Midrasha programming for this year. We are pleased to announce the student research grant recipients: Mahjabeen Dhala (CIS), “Exploring the Role of Female Activism in Islamic and Jewish Tradition,” Ahmad Ibrahim Moss (CIS) “Imagining an Islamic Liberation Theology in a Post-Truth World,” and group grant recipients Bat Sheva Miller (CJS), Mahjabeen Dhala (CIS) and Jonathan Homrighausen (JST/SCU/GTU),  “Abrahamic Hevruta: Developing Pedagogies of Interfaith Education.” Congratulations!

February 24, 2017 The Walter & Elise Haas Fund has provided the GTU a grant to support the Center for Islamic Studies and the Center for Jewish Studies in their joint programming for this academic year. We are pleased to announce grants for students working on an interreligious research project related to Judaism and Islam. Grants will range from $250 to $500 for individual projects and $500 to $1000 for joint projects, which are strongly encouraged. Student must be in the GTU MA, ThD or PhD degree program focusing on Jewish Studies and/or Islamic Studies and/or have registered for a CJS [...]

December 4, 2016 The final CIS-CJS joint Madrasa-Midrasha class, Texts/Contexts: Judaism and Islam, will be held 1-6 pm on December 4 at the GTU Library Board Room. The topic will be “Insiders and Outsiders” in Judaism and Islam, and will be led by Dr. Charlotte Fonrobert (Stanford University) and Dr. Abdullah Ali (Zaytuna College). The class is open to all.

January 6, 2016 The Graduate Theological Union has received a grant of $35,000 from the Walter and Elise Haas Fund to support Madrasa-Midrasha: Interreligious Education Programming during 2016. Madrasa-Midrasha is a collaborative effort between the GTU’s Center for Islamic Studies and its Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies. The Madrasa-Midrasha program produces workshops, lectures, courses, and public events that offer students, faculty, and community members an opportunity to explore the richness, diversities, and commonalities of Islamic and Jewish traditions. October 13, 2013 The Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies and the Center for Islamic Studies at the GTU co-sponsored their annual Madrasa/Midrasha Day of Learning on October 10 with over sixty people in attendance. Each year a topic is explored from both Jewish and Muslim perspectives. February 12, 2013Participants for the Center for Jewish Studies' and Center for Islamic Studies' annual Madrasa-Midrasha Day of Learning gathered at Easton Hall on Sunday, February 10, for a day of exploration into the history, contributions, and representations of Jews and Muslims on a variety of American media platforms. Beginning with welcomes from both centers and an introduction to this year's theme, Reel Jews & Muslims: Representations of Jews and Muslims in American Media,Munir Jiwa, Director of the Center for Islamic Studies, gave opening remarks.
